Another Video Marketing Blog with Stats and Bullet Points? Yup.

"Can you make us a viral video? We want a viral video. Is it viral yet?"

OK pump the brakes for a second. Of course we would all love for our video ad to go viral right? Or at least get as many views as possible. But is it a sure thing and should that be our first and foremost objective? I say No, not necessarily... but please, let me explain why.

First of all, you can't just decide to make a viral video or make a video "go viral." But you can help it along. Ask yourself these questions:
  • What is the ultimate goal?
  • What is my demographic?
  • How viral do I want it?
  • Is it part of a bigger campaign or does it stand on its own?
The answer to those questions could very well lead you toward or away from creative that could lend itself to going so called "viral."

Tons of stats get thrown around when it comes to video marketing, so what the hell, here's some more.
So if that's the case then you then you better brush up on techniques for video marketing campaigns to reach and exceed your objectives and boost your social media. Below are some of my favorite tips for creating compelling, memorable, and actionable online videos.
  1. The story. I'm a firm believer in storytelling. People can relate to other people. Testimonials are a great way to engage audiences to share your story.
  2. Keep it short and sweet. You should know by now that people are bombarded with tons of info every day. The first 10 seconds of your video ad needs to be compelling enough to grab their attention… Then hold it.
  3. Use humor. People want to smile. People want to be entertained. You may or may not be an expert on a topic, but are you boring?
  4. That said, Is it relevant, educational, is there a point? A take away? A kid biting his brother's finger may go viral, but does that accomplish what you want?
  5. SEO. Tag it, optimize it. Spend time on your Title, Description, and Tags.Don't make them an afterthought. Make sure to use keywords and key phrases.
  6. Brand it. Many times I "watermark" my videos with a logo in the corner. And make sure to add a URL for more info.
  7. Recycle and reuse. Once it's online it's there forever, but there is no shame in reposting it at a later date for new or even repeat viewing. Another thing I find effective is editing longer videos down into shorter, more specifically targeted pieces and reposting with new tags and audiences in mind.
  8. Include a call to action, but don't hard sell. Engage your audience enough for the conversation, but there is enough stuff out there being shoved down our throats. The last thing your viewer wants is another pyramid scheme.
